Dewalt DCF601D2-GB

DeWalt: DCF601D2-GB Sub Impact Drill Driver

I picked this little driver up about two years ago and all I can say is that of all my tools – this is the one which gets the most use and is absolutely my favourite!

In fact I would go as far to say that it is a tool that I just can’t do without. If anything happened to it – I would go straight out and buy the very same model after crying for a little while – yes, it is that good!

With its small footprint, insanely good battery life (even on a single 12v 2Ah battery) and truly mental driving power it’s ideal for almost any job!

It’s so good it has pretty much replaced my DeWalt impact driver – which I do still use, but only in situations where I need to punch the living shit out of a screw!

Generally speaking on a lot of the projects that I work on – I tend to drill drive medium level fixings, cabinet work, light drilling tasks and as a general purpose screwdriver – but I have used this thing to effortlessly drive 80mm screws into quite dense wood.

It is so comfortable to use with it’s contoured rubber grip – but the thing that stands out about it is balance!

Balance for me is how the tool feels during operation especially at awkward angles using just one hand and it just doesn’t skip a beat or ever feel like you are not in control of the tool.

What also makes this tool special is that you can release bits from the hex head one handed which means changing over during the job is reduced to seconds!

I have refitted a kitchen over a period of a week on a single charge of one of the two supplied 2Ah batteries without losing any power or performance and I have just recently upgraded with one 12v 5ah battery which has given the tool a quite astonishing runtime life under reasonably heavy use of about a month. Yes, I said that – a month on a single charge!

Cracking for driving 80mm screws into deep wood!

Like most DeWalt tools this little driver is rugged as fuck – I am convinced that it, along Cockroaches would survive a nuclear blast (given the amount of times that I have dropped it from height) – not that I am sure what Cockroaches would do with such a tool given they lack opposable thumbs …

Don’t get me wrong – is this tool a full replacement for an Impact driver or a full on Combi? No. But it is ideal for all other screwing tasks (stop it you mucky lot) then yes!
