Welcome to the DIY Hobbit!

Well, this is my little corner of the Internet outside my Instagram feed.

Here I get to chart in more detail the work I do as part of my hobby and the tools that I use to complete them.

As per Game of Thrones – ‘Winter is coming’ – outside wondering what the hell is wrong with me!

Admittedly, I don’t get a chance to post here as much as I do elsewhere – but – I promise I continue to work through and document the historic work that I have in the hope that somewhere along the line it will either help someone who is starting out and their own DIY journey – or – give them some inspiration on what their next project might be!

I generally can turn my hand to many different things – covering topics such as:

  • Carpentry
  • Joinery
  • Wood Finishing
  • Basic Electrical
  • Decorating Prep (mainly filling, sanding, priming and top coats – but I don’t do this often as it drives me mental)
  • Tips and Tricks
  • Staying Safe
  • and tools – I love tools!

You won’t find one single element of Plumbing. I hate Plumbing. It’s a skill that I don’t possess so will always leave that to the professionals!

You can read about the history of the how I became the DIY Hobbit over in my About Section – or you can read about the projects that I have finished or have in flight in the Projects Area (links in the menu bar at the top of the page). Every now and then I might also write about some of my own personal thoughts (linked to DIY) over in the Blog area.

Bit of a ‘American Sniper’ look going on … or perhaps Worzel Gummage let loose with tools

Even though I have been doing this for around five years I am still very much a enthusiastic amateur – but every project, large or small teaches me something new. A good friend once told me that you can judge how you are improving by how you recover from your mistakes … so by using that barometer of progress – I am much better than I was!

Anyhow, I will continue to ‘tweak’ and add content to this site. I am not expecting a huge amount of readership – but I hope that it helps someone along the way!
